My husband Peter and his sister Barbara were children at Kongwa school in a remote area of Tanzania in colonial times. They have a ten year ongoing project of helping the school children. See kongwaconnected.org
I have donated this painting of a Tanzania mother and child “Unataka nini?” (What do you want?) to their project.
“Unataka nini?” (What do you want?) pastel on prepared panel, 20”x20”.Inspiration: I like to see how children see and thrill to a their gaze when it connects to the attention of strangers. The child in this painting looks into an unknown future wrapped securely to the back of his strong mother. The painting was selected in the first round of The Pastel Society's exhibition UK this year. The painting is currently held in England by Barbara Laing who will facilitate purchase from British collectors.
