Midas Wall

Painting plan at the La Jolla Shores beach thwarted by congested parking, I drove further up Torrey Pines Road and found a spot near Scripps Pier. Walking north from the pier on the beach, (the tide going out)  I was struck by the golden sculptured cliff against the human constructed retaining wall and the weathering of water, salt, sun and air.

The concrete wall adds a melancholic thrust to the plein air effort to capture the path of the beach and the atmospheric distance of the far cliff. There were hot air balloons in the sky – but I did not include them.
