Warm paper for a warm day
Heat of the Moment/ Mountains of Santa Ysabel
September 3 , artists "paint out" before the opening of the Plein Air XVI show in the grounds of Santa Ysabel Art Gallery. A very warm shimmering afternoon. The bleached grassland reached far and crawled into the base of the dusky mountains.
I used a piece of Kitty Wallace paper previously prepared with a wash of dark ochre water-color. The deep gold-rust ground livened the pastels. I used Rembrandt and Terry Ludwig pastels.
